Professor of Practical Theology


The Pentecostal Theological Seminary (PTS) seeks applications for a full-time faculty in the area of practical theology. Pentecostal Theological Seminary has followed a model for ministerial development drawn from the Scriptures and the Wesleyan-Pentecostal faith orientation. PTS is dedicated to preparing women and men for Holy Spirit-filled, Holy Spirit-led Christian ministry in today’s world. It is the intention of the Seminary to help students integrate life and learning in such a way that they may acquire the maturity and professional competency needed to carry out the mission of the Church in the world. PTS is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS) to offer 7 Master’s and 1 doctoral degree programs. About the Position:
The position is for a full-time instructor in the area of practical theology, whose responsibility
would include, but not limited to:

  1. teaching a minimum of seventeen semester hours each academic year,

  2. serving on the faculty council and two or three faculty committees,

  3. advising students on Christian formation and academic progress, and

  4. participation in the community life of the seminary.

The faculty member will primarily teach in the Master of Arts in Church Ministries, the Master of Divinity, and the Doctor of Ministry programs.

Ideal candidates must demonstrate experience with teaching in an online learning environment, quality teaching, student and community engagement, a commitment to collaboration, an understanding of the mission of a faith-based institution of higher education, and alignment with the learning outcomes of the institution’s degree programs in the area of practical theology.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined by the
Academic Development and Policy Committee of the Faculty Council in conjunction with the search process. The person may be hired as the Assistant or Associate Professor, based on his/her qualifications.

Besides the salary, the compensation would include health plans and retirement contributions. The institution also provides 100% tuition remission benefits for the full-time employee’s immediate family members (spouse and children), generous holiday schedule, including a paid Holiday break closure in December, and paid sick leave.

Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (PhD) in an area of practical theology. Applicants with the DMin degree may be considered, provided that they demonstrate exceptional qualifications in academic scholarship, teaching, and ministry experience.
  • Teaching experience at a Master’s level
  • Aptitude for teaching online courses
  • Experience in congregational ministry
  • Commitment to cultivating collaborative relationships with faculty colleagues
  • Aptitude and demonstrated ability to integrate ethnic diversity and equity in teaching
  • Commitment to effective communication with students
  • Commitment to a holistic formation in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition
  • Commitment to the Wesleyan-Pentecostal theological orientation
  • Commitment to the teachings of the Church of God, the sponsoring denomination of the seminary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (PhD) with scholarly publication.
  • Experience in teaching online
  • Extensive experience in teaching
  • Extensive experience in congregational ministry
  • Vocational maturity to mentor and coach students, as well as those in ministry
  • Strengthening the representation of ethnic and gender diversity of the Faculty Council
