ML792 Finding Voice:  Women in the Ministry of Preaching

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide an overview of the ministry of women as preachers in the church. Various topics will be discussed to include women in the history of preaching, the variety of styles and voices in which women proclaim the Word, gender issues in preaching, theological interpretations of biblical texts related to women and preaching and the creative process of sermon preparation.

COURSE OUTCOMES

This course is designed to enable students to:

• Discuss the biblical and theological premises for the preaching task.
• Explore and discuss the prominent historical and biblical arguments for and against women as preachers.
• Analyze styles of preaching in regard to ethnicity and culture. Discuss how these styles intersect with gender.
• Analyze styles of preaching in regards to the gifts/offices of the church: prophetic, evangelistic, pastoral, Apostolic.
• Analyze different forms and styles of preaching women.
• Gain an understanding of contemporary issues of preachers in general, and women in particular, and learn ways to navigate internal and external challenges with integrity.
• Develop skills for delivering a well- crafted sermon and understand basic principles for sermon preparation.
• Find their unique voices in ministry and develop a sense of authority in the ministry of preaching.

This course will substitute for Ministry of the Word.
