More than 400 prominent theologians, biblical scholars, authors, and educators from around the world will converge at Pentecostal Theological Seminary, Lee University, and North Cleveland Church of God from March 8th through March 11th during the quinquennial (once every five years) joint gathering of two societies. Pentecostal Theological Seminary is hosting the 47th Annual Society for Pentecostal Studies 2018 Conference in concert with the 53rd Meeting of the Wesleyan Theological Society. Keynote speakers will include Leslie Copeland-Tune, director of the Ecumenical Poverty Initiative, Stephen Offutt, Associate Professor of Developmental Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, and Carlos F. Cardoza-Orlandi, Professor of World Christianities and Mission Studies at Perkins School of Theology.
Throughout the week, scholars and practitioners will offer insights into two compelling and culturally relevant themes. SPS’s theme is as follows: "The Good News of the Kingdom and the Poor in the Land," under the direction of Mark J. Cartledge, PhD, Professor of Practical Ministry, Director of the Center for Renewal Studies, Regent University School of Divinity. WTS participants will offer presentations surrounding the theme: “Borders: Bane or Blessing?” under the direction of Program Chair, the Rev. Dr. Priscilla Pope-Levison, Associate Dean for External Programs at Perkins School of Theology.
The kick-off event on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the NCCOG sanctuary featuring keynote speaker Leslie Copeland-Tune is open to the public and will be followed by a complementary reception for all. Guests will be welcomed by Dr. Michael L. Baker, Chancellor of Education and President, Pentecostal Theological Seminary. Dr. David Sang-Ehil Han, Vice President of Academics, will offer a scripture reading and prayer.
